Facial Rejuvenation and Cosmetic Acupuncture - is it right for you?

Do you find yourself looking in the mirror and not liking what you see? Are there fine lines and wrinkles that weren’t there before? Is your skin not as clear, firm, or as bright as it used to be despite trying every beauty product under the sun? Maybe it’s time to try cosmetic acupuncture!

Cosmetic acupuncture is a safe, non-toxic, non-surgical approach to reducing the signs of aging. It increases circulation and collagen production, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, tightens and firms skin, reduces bags under the eyes, and gives your skin a younger, brighter, healthier look.

How it works

Cosmetic acupuncture combines the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and specialized facial acupuncture treatments to produce healthier, rejuvenated skin!

Our skin is the largest, and most visible organ of the body. The skin is constantly being exposed and required to respond to environmental changes. Functionally, it provides mechanical integrity and resilience, protection against harmful foreign chemicals, antioxidant protection, selective absorption of many substances including oxygen, protection against dehydration and overhydration (water repellency), ultraviolet protection, and regenerative and restorative mechanisms when injured (1). Not to mention all of the natural changes that occur with aging (wrinkling, sagging, laxity, pigment and blemish development, dryness, etc).

Cosmetic acupuncture treatments increase water and natural oil content, and significantly improve elasticity and collagen formation in the skin (2). One of the many explanations of how acupuncture works is this; when the acupuncture needle is inserted into the skin it naturally stimulates the body’s repair system. It is this natural healing process that stimulates the production of collagen at the site of needle insertion. Regeneration of the dermis and epidermis produces new collagen and elastin proteins (3), leaving new skin tissue naturally appearing younger.

Cosmetic acupuncture improves facial muscle tone. When muscles under the skin are toned, the skin over top of these muscles is firmed, which reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles (4). It also decreases inflammation, and increases circulation (1).  Improved circulation assists the body’s ability to eliminate toxins and enhance the skin with the nutrients it needs to give you that natural, healthy glow!

What to expect

The first treatment includes a detailed health history in addition to your first treatment. Delicate needles are inserted primarily in the face with a few additional spots on the body. The needles are left in for approximately 30 minutes although, an entire single treatment ranges from 60-90 minutes.  Each treatment will also include a facial massage, education about skin care, nutrition and supplementation to enhance, and maintain the best results!

For the best results, it is recommended to have a single treatment done once a week for 10-12 weeks. Maintenance treatments are recommended once a month to once every 2 or 3 months. However, results may vary from person to person.
